Josephine

P122
Nice cozy restaurant in Ipoh. A btl of house red rm70 onwards, coffee starting from rm11. Not sure about the food there though, I have heard mixed reviews according to my hometown friends. This cafe is conveniently located along the main road towards Ipoh Garden East.

Osteria Mozza

In a recent trip to SIngapore during Raya holiday break, we checked out this famous celebrity chef Mario Batali’s restaurant in Marina Bay Sands.
DSC_0347
The restaurant is divided into 2 sections: a casual pizzeria on the right and a bistro style restaurant on the left

Our reservation was made at 9pm but it was still quite packed by the time we reached Osteria Mozza. The restaurant offers a warm yet exquisite ambience, equipped with friendly waiting staffs and we were spoilt for choices on the menu.

Let’s see what we have picked for the evening.

Complimentary Ricotta Cheese

Mozzarella Tasting as one of the starter : bufala mozzarella, burrata & ricotta. It's a mozzarella bar so we couldn't have missed this right, however it' didn’t turn out that memorable… I like their accompanying garlic bread though :)
DSC_0360
Grilled Octopus with potatoes, celery & lemon
nutty and zesty in flavor while the spring onion celery blended in really well. loved this dish
DSC_0367
linguine with clams, pancetta & spicy chiles
I wouldn’t have thought of pancetta and clams as a combination but this was awesome
DSC_0370
Pappardelle Verde with lamb ragĂș, olive Taggiasche & mint
This was probably the best dish among all, even for a non lamb eater like me it was so good that for a moment I thought it was tuna meat!
DSC_0376
Diners were still coming in past 10pm… here comes our main courses
DSC_0384
duck confit – tender and juicy but i didn’t quite enjoy it
DSC_0386
Grilled Quail wrapped in pancetta with sage & honey - totally tastebud assault...but in a good way
 DSC_0381
Grilled Leg of Lamb with fregola sarda, mint & yogurt – this dish was a a little disappointing
 DSC_0374
Their wine list is at cut-throat prices so we picked one of the cheapest in the range. Not too bad. We were stuffed to the brim and had to skip dessert or else, the waiter might have to roll us out of the establishment LOL. Overall a very good experience, I would rate it 7 out of 10.

Kuala Sepetang, Tepi Sungai Seafood Restaurant

In a recent trip back to my hometown of Ipoh which I sometimes also call it a dead town, as the number of hangout and exploratory places are always so limited. Boy was I wrong. A trip to Kuala Sepetang was somewhat an eye-opener as I never knew there was such a great place existed in Perak!  Traditionally this a river port for local fishermen to offload their catch, well I think it still is today. Eating at this place guarantees the freshest seafood you can find, not to mention its tranquil and beautiful river mangrove scene which I find almost therapeutic.

nice view while enjoying our lunch

Kuala Sepetang is about 45 mins to an hour drive from Ipoh town. I say it makes a great day out on a lazy Sunday, where you get to enjoy the river view and fresh seafood. I will definitely revisit this place again.

Cordon Bleu, Jalan Kuala Kangsar

One of the best Hainanese Chicken Chop I’ve ever had actually, besides the ones that my mum makes of course. Chicken was pan-fried to perfection, served with fried egg and coselaw.
IMG_0938
This place is definitely a Ipoh hidden gem, it takes more than a local to know about the restaurant. Here’s a more detailed review with directions to get there:

Citrus, Ipoh

Most people (non-locals) who visit Ipoh will not think of going for steaks when the city is famous for local delicacies. I remember Piffs asked me a while back about fine dining restaurants in Ipoh, I was scratching my head hard. There’s one big boy in town starts with D but that’s pretty much it.  Now I found another good one, it’s called CITRUS.
IMG_0931
We had their sampling menu for RM80/ per pax
IMG_0846
Trio appetizer – Salad, Prawn and Scallop
 IMG_0855
Choice of either tenderloin beef or 2-way Cod. I opted for the latter and it was so good I didn’t have a chance to take a picture of it
 IMG_0856
Warm chocolate pudding with oozing hot sauce served with ice-cream and Rasberry sauce
Overall, food was good, price wise was slightly on the steep side and service was a tad slow.

Leonardo’s Dining Room

Exactly one month ago, I have just turned 21. I wish!
Anyway the point is I had a good celebration with some good friends at Leonardo, one of my favourite restaurants in KL. Located on the quieter area of Bangsar on Jalan Bangkung, with its inviting interior and ambience, dimly lit and sometimes can be a little chilly (so don’t wear too skimpy),  this restaurant offers a good selection of reasonably priced wine not to mention their fusion twist menu have always lived up to expectation.
IMG01702-20110408-2007
Still remember birthday girl was the first to reach the restaurant… the rest subsequently arrived only half an hour later. On a rainy Friday evening, it’s almost impossible to escape the atrocious KL traffic jam.
IMG_8533 IMG_8556
The evening began with quite a number of starters to share. Among which I find their pork knuckle platter being the champ. It’s their signature dish so I would highly recommend it. They also have an acquired dish called Kentucky Fried Frogs, which I have adventurously ordered but didn’t have the chance to eat! That dish was gone in seconds. O_o

  IMG_8585 IMG_8588
Everyone ordered our own main and me being a  seafood lover, I picked Thai Style Vongole. Fresh and delightful, and spicy too! However I would prefer to swap spaghetti to angel hair.
IMG_8531
It wasn’t just a birthday celebration but also a chance for us to catch up, for I haven’t seen some of these folks since last year! One of my gfs was in Tokyo when the recent catastrophic tsunami hit Sendai. I said she lived to tell a tale don’t you think! Uncle Blung also moved to SG for good recently. So it was really good to see everyone together that night.
IMG_8601 IMG_8578
Leonardo’s also has a few local food dishes on the menu such as Bak Kut Teh and Porridges. Oh, they also bought me Choc Cheese from Just Heavenly too… my fav fav cake! :)

It was an evening made so special and memorable because of your presence. Special thanks to LB who organized the party and being so honest, who insisted it wasn’t going to be a surprise so please dress up we are going out for your special dinner. I was anticipating a party of 2 or 4, so it did surprise me to see all my favourite people there. love you all and also the tweets from the few daddies who couldn’t make it bec of babysitting duties.

Ristretto, Mont Kiara

The other day my friend Victor was telling me about the latest and bestest coffee in town is located in Mont Kiara. I have been doing a fair bit of house hunting in that area of late but never come across this place called “The Fare”. Anyway it didn’t particularly caught my mind until yesterday, which was a public holiday, and we couldn’t find a place that’s opened for lunch so we decided to give this place a try and called up Vic for directions.
 IMG_8937
This place is secluded alright. If you are coming from Mt. Kiara and if Baskin Robbins is on your right, keep going till you reach the second turning on right. Turn in and go straight, you will reach Mont Kiara 10 which is still under construction. Ristretto is located at the ground floor of The Fare.
This place instantly earned our brownie points cos it was opened on a public holiday! :)
IMG_8922 IMG_8904

They specialised in various types of coffee, the beans are imported but roasted locally to keep its freshness. Vic said their latte is to die for, thus I had to give it a try. I am not a fan for milky coffee…  for those who know me well will know how I love all things dark and bitter actually :P But this latte tasted really fresh and strong but not too milky. I love it.
The cherry and strawberry cheesecake was self baked by the Argentinean chief barista, Miguel. I’m not a cheesecake fan either but it was quite good. Miguel said he purposely reduced substantial amount of sugar to suit Asians’ taste, and it was baked only this morning!
IMG_8935
Free carpark. Complimentary wifi. Cozy ambience. And most importantly, it’s not too crowded.
IMG_8917 IMG_8914
LB ordered club sandwich, forgot to ask him how it was. I had potato ham salad… carby but nice.
IMG_8907IMG_8913
Calling all coffee connoisseurs in KL, give this place a try! Also a conducive place to catch up with friends. I am so jealous that the folks spotted multiple whale sharks in Tenggol this weekend, a dive trip which I signed up for but had to give it amiss… :(

Last weekend was my sister’s birthday. Lazy to cook, I decided to treat sis to dinner at Pressroom @ BSC, it’s a vintage European brasserie serving French and English food.

IMG_3895

They have a good variety of wine from many countries, sis and I were so delighted to find our favourite Chablis in their wine list!
